Summary
Our client designs and manufactures high performance transmission systems which have helped power the world’s greatest racing machines to victory in the toughest and best motor races in the world, including wins at the Le Mans 24 hours, Rally Dakar, the Formula 1 World Championship and the legendary Indy 500 to name but a few.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer the Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for enacting the requirements of the Chief Designer, taking ownership and delivering particular project requirements, overseeing and managing engineers.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
· To take design responsibility for individual design and development projects and to undertake such projects to the requirements of the Chief Designer.
· To manage and deliver such projects on time, to project cost and to project specification.
· To supervise design and detail engineers to undertake design and development projects.
· To undertake CAD modeling and scheming on 3D CAD to Company standards and procedures.
· To assist in the timescale and resource planning of engineering projects.
· To ensure continual improvement in the design and manufacture of the product.
· To approve and sign detail drawings up-issues where appropriate.
· To manage staff, new starters and students.
· To ensure that all project responsibilities are concluded in an appropriate manner.
· To work with the Engineering Manager and the Business Managers to manage and prioritise work as required.
· To ensure compliance with standards, operating procedures and work instructions.
· To offer continuous improvement in activities related to the job role.
· To attend race / test support events as required.
Essential Requirements:
· Minimum of BEng or BSc, ideally in an engineering, motorsport or aeronautical discipline
· Understanding of transmission functionality or other rotating equipment
· A good working knowledge of draughting standards, geometric tolerances and manufacturing methods
· At least 5-years experience within a multi disciplined environment, ideally around a design function but could encompass production and design disciplines
· Experience using CAD tool such as Siemens NX or similar (e.g. Solidworks, Catia, Pro-Engineer etc.)
Desirable requirements:
· Have awareness of APQP process according to automotive customer requirements
· Have knowledge of DFMEA / DVP creation
· Knowledge of IMDS
· At least 5-years experience working within an automotive environment, ideally
· working directly with automotive OEM manufacturers Experience of working with Teamcenter or similar PLM system
Skills and Abilities:
· Excellent IT skills and a knowledge of Word, Excel and appreciation of databases
· Must be organised and have a structured approach to problem solving
· Confident communicator both internally and to customers
· Ability to work across multiple projects and prioritise accordingly
· Supplier liaison during development and pre-launch phase to ensure parts are delivered on time
· Must be a strong communicator across a multi skilled organisation and especially in communicating technical ideas to staff members and to customers.
· Application of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
· Must have leadership/ management skills and take responsibility for decisions taken.
